When to see a private IBD specialist

Most people book their first appointment for one of these reasons.

01

Your treatment has stopped working

Symptoms are creeping back and you want to know what to try next, or whether your dose needs checking.

02

Your next appointment is months away

You’re flaring now and need an IBD specialist to look at it properly, not in the new year.

03

You want a second opinion

A fresh, unhurried look at your diagnosis, medicines and options, with time for every question.

04

You’ve just been diagnosed

Help making sense of it all: medicines, diet, work, travel and what happens next.

Your written IBD care plan

Every first appointment ends with a written care plan, saved to your secure portal and ready to share with your GP or gastroenterologist.

  • A clear summary of where your IBD is now
  • Your options, explained plainly, including side effects
  • Tests, prescriptions or infusions arranged if you need them
  • A direct line back to us through your portal or WhatsApp

Questions about your first IBD appointment

Will I see a doctor?

You’ll see an advanced nurse practitioner or nurse consultant who specialises in IBD. They can assess you, prescribe and arrange tests. If you need a gastroenterologist, we refer you to one we work with.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book yourself, or ask your GP, dietitian or gastroenterologist to refer you. If you self-refer, please upload your most recent clinic letter with your diagnosis to your patient portal once you are booked.

Can I use my health insurance?

We are self-pay, so you pay on the day and can reclaim the cost from your insurer if your policy covers it. We work with GeoBlue for international travellers. If you’d like to check your cover before you book, message Kay on WhatsApp.

Who is the clinic for?

Adults over 18 with a confirmed diagnosis of Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. We can suggest specialists for children, and for people without a diagnosis.

How soon can I be seen?

Message Kay on WhatsApp and she will offer you the first available time, on any day of the week. Online booking shows Tuesday appointments only.

How much does a private IBD consultation cost?

A first appointment is £250 for 45 minutes with an IBD specialist nurse, in clinic at 19 Wimpole Street or by video. You leave with a written care plan in your secure portal. Any tests, prescriptions or infusions are priced separately on our prices page.

What happens at a first IBD appointment?

Your specialist reads your history before you arrive, reviews your symptoms and current treatment, and talks through your options including side effects. Tests, prescriptions or infusions are arranged if you need them, and you leave with a written plan you can share with your GP or gastroenterologist.
